« Beautiful copy in a charming binding made in the 16th century. On covers, the name of Claude Bouvot » (Catalogue des Livres rares et précieux de Feu M. le Comte de Lignerolles, Paris, 1894, n°261).

Superb « a la fanfare » binding created by Nivolas Eve, binder for the kings Henri III and Henri IV, in 1586 for Claude Bouvot, on this text against the “duel d’Honneur”; just after the duel des Mignons in 1577.

As the king didn’t authorize the duel, the duel du point d'honneur appeared.

In a dozen years, thousands of gentlemen died. Between the year 1588 and the year 1608 10 000 gentlmen were killed for reasons of honnour. Edicts forbade duel in 1599, 1602, 1613, 1617 and 1623.

This precious volume presents the ordonnance given by king Charles IX forbidding the honour duel.
