Barjavel, René. La tempête.

Paris, Denoël, 1982.

First edition.

One of the only 20 copies printed on large paper (#14).

This is one of Barjavel’s last novels.

Published for the first time by Denoël in 1982, La tempête undoubtedly belongs to the genre of Science-Fiction. With the brilliant and bold style that characterizes him, Barjavel returns once again to two of his favorite themes: Humanity in the face of a cataclysm and the celebration of Love.

While a war between the United States and China could turn into a world war, a scientist specialized in the human brain discovers the LM (Love Molecule) which removes all acts of violence in humans.

This molecule is then diffused on the entire planet and the race for disarmament begins. It was decided to send all the atomic bombs on the sun so that they would be destroyed without risk to man.

However, the BL did not act on everyone and the fate of humanity is in danger...

The storm is an excellent novel in the line of La nuit des temps. The same themes are addressed: universal cataclysm, nuclear apocalypse, space travel and absolute love.
